Jennifer Lawrence – a lovable movie star

$

Jennifer Lawrence is only 22 and already considered a “serious actress” having two Oscar nominations and a (very recent) Golden Globe win. She also proved to be extremely versatile switching between drama, action, comedy and even horror with great ease.

Besides she is one of my favorite persons in Hollywood – if you have ever seen a Jennifer Lawrence interview than you probably know she’s hilarious and a total goofball who’s talent is just the cherry on top of a great personality.
I love how she doesn’t take herself too seriously and isn’t afraid to joke at her own expense. She candidly admits: "I never know what's going to come out of my mouth and that's what always gets me in trouble."

While she has often mocked her newly acquired Hollywood's IT girl status, nobody can deny her star is raising fast and burning bright right now. And unlike some other young actresses her claim to fame has a solid base in her work.

Jennifer started her career at an early age but never took any professional drama classes or acting lessons.
She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, has two older brothers and grew up on a horse farm. Jennifer worked as an assistant nurse at the children's camp that her parents run and graduated high school two years early with a 3.9 average in order to begin her acting career.

When she was 14 she went to New York with her mother and was spotted by an agent that wanted to take her picture. She was then asked to come to some audition. Her talent was recognized from the very beginning with the agent telling her mom that she was "the best cold read by a 14- year-old they had ever heard".
After that her career flourished so her parents were forced to move to Los Angeles. In fact she still lives with them which is quite refreshing for Hollywood.

 MOM?!?!

Her first acting role was in the TBS comedy, The Bill Engvall Show, the series aired for three seasons and she received the Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Performer in a TV Series for it.
The role of Katniss Everdeen in the The Hunger Games was the one that made her widely popular, but before that she stared in quite a few critically applauded movies.

She won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young emerging actor/actress at the Venice Film Festival in 2008 for her part in The Burning Plain. In 2009 she got the Los Angeles Film Festival Award for Outstanding Performance for her role in The Poker House. Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Ree in Winter's Bone is often viewed as her breakout performance for which she received critical acclaim and her first Oscar nomination. Another part that got her a lot of attention was the one in the 2011 X-Men: First Class (she was Raven Darkhölme / Mystique).
In 2012 she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

After proving her talent in Winter’s Bone she actually had problems getting roles because, apparently, she was not seen as a feminine character and basically didn’t have enough sex appeal. Can you believe that?
It was then that she decided to play Hollywood at its own game and did a steamy bikini photo shoot in Esquire magazine.
This move was well thought and came with the expected side of criticism but had the desired result: ”A lot of people said, ‘Oh, now we have a great actress come along and she’s showing her boobs.’ But that’s exactly what I had to do so I could keep working. Honestly, that photo shoot is what helped me get ‘X-Men” she said in an interview.

That being said Jennifer Lawrence movies are always carefully chosen as she lives by this believe: “There are actresses who build themselves, and then there are actresses who are built by others. I want to build myself.”

In 2011 she got the offer to play Katniss Everdeen in the highly anticipated The Hunger Games. I was a huge fan of the books  (remember this article)before the movie came out and unlike many other times I wasn’t disappointed. The sequel (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) is still filming and will premier sometime this year.
Going back to Jennifer and the Hunger Games part - she took three days to accept it because she was intimidated by the size of the movie and what it might mean in the long run. In order to prepare for this role she underwent extensive training including archery, rock and tree climbing, running, Pilates, combat, yoga and a lot of other workouts. She even owns her own bow and arrow. The movie was a huge success, setting the record for the third-largest opening weekend of all time with $152.5 million in three days. She became the highest paid action heroine ever.

What I did not understand at the time was all the controversy regarding her weight/size. Many mentioned that Jennifer was a little too thick to play Katniss. Manohla Dargis from the New York Times said: “A few years ago Ms. Lawrence might have looked hungry enough to play Katniss, but now, at 21, her seductive, womanly figure makes a bad fit for a dystopian fantasy about a people starved into submission”. Also Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter said this Jennifer’s body was “lingering baby fat.”

I get that this points of view came from the desire to respect Suzanne Collins‘s character one hundred percent (in the books Katniss is described as being painfully thin), but they could have said it in a classier manner than referring to her as being fat.
For God sake, Jennifer Lawrence is 5 ft 9 (175 cm) tall and around 130 pounds (59 kg) which is pretty much perfect!
I really don’t get why people tend to get stuck on silly details when the really important things are left behind. That’s Hollywood for you!

She just won a Golden Globe for her part in 'Silver Linings Playbook' (Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical) and has been nominated for an Oscar for the same role. She’s a favorite going into awards season and got this part after auditioning over Skype.
And  having just seen the Silver Linings Playbook I can understand why - she's absolutely amazing and so is mister Bradley Cooper who's talent, I admit I underestimated till now. Big mistake as they are both terrific in this little movie who succeeds a very rare thing - to talk about a very serious problem (mental health) in a light way but without making fun of it. It reminded me of Juno that way!
Jennifer Lawrence looks absolutely gorgeous in the movie and not too young either - she's 22, Bradley is 38 but I never once thought about the 16 years gap between them watching it.

Jennifer Lawrence in her amazing Dior Haute Couture gown, Brian Atwoodshoes, Chopard jewelry, and a Ferragamo clutch on the Golden Globes red carpet stealing the show without even trying!

Just to clarify things – when she started her speech as the Golden Globe winner for Best Actress with the words: "What does it say? I beat Meryl!” she was quoting Bette Midler in the comedy “TheFirst Wives Club” (1996) and wasn’t dissing Meryl Streep whom she adores.

The funny thing is the one who didn’t get it (big surprise here) and started all the controversy on Twitter was Lindsay Lohan (her tweet -“No1 should ever mess with a legend such as Meryl Streep”) proving once again she’s brain dead. Meryl Streep wasn't even there so that really wouldn’t have made sense.

Jennifer Lawrence explained the whole thing while hosting Saturday Night Live a few days ago and delivered a few other skits and a funny monologue where she "trashed" all four of her fellow Best Actress Oscar nominees: Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Emmanuelle Riva and Quvenzhane Wallis.

I loved this girl ever since she admitted being a couch potato and loving TV shows way too much. It’s like she was talking about me!:)))) She also said (in an interview to Marie Claire South Africa) that she would rather stay on the couch all day than hit the gym or go out partying (Amen to that sister!): "I don't like going out that much. I'm kind of an old lady. After it's 11, I'm like, 'Don't these kids ever get tired?' When I'm out, I think about my couch. Like, 'It would be awesome to be on it right now. I bet there's an episode of 'Dance Moms' on. Am I missing a new episode of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians?' "I'm just stressed by the idea of missing them."

She totally had me when she added that her idea of a good time is spending time with her friends in her apartment eating junk food: "I like people to come over to my place. It's like a reality TV show cave. I just learned how to work TiVO. That changed my life”.

As for her personal life she just brook up (this month) with British actor Nicholas Hoult (you may remember him from Skins, A Single Man, About a Boy), after two years of dating.

 Other interesting facts about Jennifer:
  • She is close friends with Lily Collins
  • She is the only girl to be born on the Lawrence side of the family in fifty years
  • She appeared in the music video The Mess I Made by the band Parachute
  • She refuses to have a twitter or a Facebook account
  • Rolling Stone Magazine named her ‘America’s kick-ass sweetheart’
  • In October 2012 she was announced as the new face of Dior
  • She ranked #1 on AskMen's list of Top 99 Most Desirable Women for 2013
  • She's hilariously referred as JLaw by press, fans and bloggers

The rare thing that Jennifer has and that many other in Hollywood lack completely is the fact she seems and behaves like a real human being not a movie star, she still has that down to earth, relatable personality that makes you feel happiness when she succeeds rather then envy, you genuinely root for her and hope she does well. That’s why I’m pretty sure her career will be more than one hit wonder and she will be one of those actresses that can stay in the limelight for a long time.

Ulyana Sergeenko Couture Show, Spring-Summer 2013

$

0
Our favorite street style muse, Ulyana Sergeenko, has just sent her second couture collection down the runway. Although slightly off-schedule, her Paris show held at Theatre Marigny (January 22nd 2013) had a  star studded front row: Carine Roitfeld, Natalia Vodianova, Derek Blasberg, Dita von Teese, Hamish Bowles and an array of less known Russian socialites and personalities sporting her designs head to toe and showing their support.

All her collections including this one have a constant fairytale/royalty feel that’s actually a wholesome extension of Ulyana’s own style. And while many have said this is going to get old soon, I feel the exact opposite – her being so true to her own brand and visual identity only shows how much she believes in it and how she’s in this business of fashion for the long run.

The models turned princesses for a day were literally stepping out of a life-sized fairytale book down a glittery yellow brick road inspired runway which perfectly embodied the feel of the entire collection: Scarlett O’Hara via Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz meets a heroine of eclectic descent – we had Russian off course, but also British, Mexican, French, Spanish and even 19th century American influences mixed in.

In fact, this American princess exploring the prairie was the main thing polishing off every look as far as I’m concerned. Ulyana Sergeenko Couture Show even had a bit of Salem witches, puritan wives flare here and there.

Isn’t this green silk number the most beautiful homage to Scarlett O’Hara’s famous curtain dress?

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but this is the thing that does it for me when it comes to Ulyana’s collections: the original mix of regalia elements with national costume details.
I imagine this spoiled princess bored out of her mind with her overly rich/complicated dresses who decides to borrow some things from her chamber maid wardrobe to transform herself and go mix in with the commoners.

The wasp-waisted silhouette with peplum details is again highlighted and, as in real life, it’s becoming a trademark of Ulyana’s fashion sensibilities. The floor length skirts have wonderful volumes due to delicate layers of lace and even beautifully done frills trailing down the runway so that every modern heroin can feel royal and empowered.
The looks are finished off with wide brimmed straw hats, fingerless lace gloves, Mexican style knit shawls and ponchos, lace parasols, small box clutches, head scarves and cute aprons.

I love the Old World nostalgic vibe of everything, the subdued color palette with eccentric pops of green and red, the mix of sheer fabrics, silks and heavier tweeds, the subtle prints and the demure bare shoulders – it’s like all of the characters I loved reading about as a child and teenager have just landed in modern times. And I say "Welcome" to them all and  "Can, I please borrow what your wearing?"!

How do you like it? Do you think that the transition from a street style icon and couture collector to fashion designer is a success story in Ulyana Sergeenko's case?

Outfit - jumpsuit meets leather

I have nothing interesting to report so you’ll have to do without my usual words to live by and precious wisdom snippets. I honestly don’t know how you’re going to make it this week, but I do have faith in you guys! Hang in there! :)))

As you can see I’m wearing a green jumpsuit with a brown leather jacket and a loud gold belt! Nothing new under the sun!
But what I really love about this outfit are the metallic toe orange boots! Those are pretty cool!
Oh, yes – the huge brown bag is not bad either - I can fit a lot of stuff in there and I made a couple of small images with my favorite Old Hollywood actresses that I’m changing every time I use it.

This awful winter day I had Miss Ava Gardner to keep me company ‘cause that’s how I roll! Entourage is everything and I do like to keep the best company!

  I'm wearing:
leather jacket /geaca piele - New Yorker
jumpsuit, belt, winter coat / salopeta, curea, palton – vintage
boots / cizme - random brand
rings, earrings / inele, cercei - random brand

Cara Delevingne – who’s that girl?

$

Cara Delevingne is the British model that everyone is talking about right now. In recent months I have heard and seen more and more of her as she is making her way to the top of the fashion world. Besides at least 50% of all Tumblr photos are photos of her.:)))

I remembered Cara from her days as an Asos model - even then she caught my eye. She has one of those unforgettable faces – a natural blonde with incredible, light green eyes and dark caterpillar eyebrows, the perfect contrasts – a strange, almost hypnotizing beauty. And, as it turns out, important designers agree as she is now strutting her stuff on every big runway out there.

She began her modeling career when she was 17 and she’s now 20 years old. Her debut runway show was for Clements Ribeiro during spring 2012 at London Fashion Week. After that it was the Burberry show in New York and they liked her so much that she ended up as the new face of the fashion house.

That's why Cara Delevingne walked almost exclusively for Burberry and Burberry Prorsum for spring summer 2012 but the next season she was everywhere from Chanel, Stella McCartney, Cacharel to Sonia Rykiel, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana and more.

You may also remember Cara being part of Victoria's Secret fashion show in 2012. And all of this work didn’t go unnoticed as British Vogue described her as the "star face" of the autumn/winter 2012-2013 show season. She was also ranked #25 on models.com's 50 Top Models and won Model Of The Year 2012 at the British Fashion Awards.

And let’s not forget about the small part she played inAnna Karenina, as Princess Sorokina, the marriage interest of Count Vronsky who was played by the amazing Aaron Taylor-Johnson whom I love.
It’s also rumored she almost got the role of Éponine in Les Misérables but in the end Samantha Barks landed the part instead.

Right now Cara Delevingne is the face of Chanel's Resort 2013 campaign and is booked for every major show in the Fashion Week Circuit.

Besides modeling and acting Cara Delevingne is interested in music as well and it’s been said Simon Fueller (the "Pop Idol"/"American Idol" creator) it’s set on transforming her into a pop sensation.

This last year she also graced the cover of some of the most prestigious fashion magazines: Vogue, Love, British Vogue, Harper's Bazaar's, Numero.

She definitely was a busy bee and I’m sure that’s going to escalade, the fashion world always ends up going crazy for some girl and this is pretty much the case now.

It helps that she is a London socialite. Cara Delevingne is the youngest of three sisters (Cara  is 20, Poppy is 26 and Chloe is 28) and was born in rich British family.

Her sister Poppy Delevingne is also a famous British model and the duo is often seen on red carpets, at music festivals and fashion weeks and is frequently featured on the party pages of British Vogue and The Telegraph.

In fact the Delevingne sisters are rich, blue- blooded and can compete with the Middleton sisters as far as the media coverage goes – the gossip columnists live to write about them.

Cara Delevingne and Poppy Delevingne together in a photoshoot!

Cara is the granddaughters of former English Heritage boss, Sir Jocelyn Stevens, who also founded the Caroline radio station, was the director of the London Evening Standard and later the Daily Express and the proprietor-editor of The Queenmagazine. His first wife Janie Sheffield was lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret.

Cara Delevingne and her sisters had a privileged life from birth living in London's Mayfair and are friends with the Jaggers and Lily Allen's family. Cara’s godmother, Joan Collins, even come up with a clever nickname for this three: the ‘Dynasty Sisters’. Catchy, right?

Apparently they know everybody and their mother, from royalty to movie and music stars. Chloe has a degree in biomedical sciences, she is a nightclub entrepreneur and is almost always included in Britain's most powerful lists, Cara is friends with Princess Beatrice, Alexa Chung, Rita Ora, Rihanna, Azealia Banks and Poppy used to live with Sienna Miller.

Although they never officially confirmed (or denied) it Cara Delevingne and One Direction's Harry Styles were causally dating for a few months last year (they were photographed on a number of dates between July and September 2012). It’s rumored that she dumped him because her agency/management team considered this relationship made her an even bigger tabloid target and Styles was too “low rent” for Cara. I do agree she can do better than Harry Styles (who’s famously getting over anybody in 5 seconds and can always find a cougar to comfort him if needed).

I’m not trying to make her seem like an angel here as she has a reputation for being a party animal and has been see intoxicated in public before (just note she is of legal drinking age in Britain).

She also seem very funny and goofy!

There is no doubt that she has a great career in front of her, I’m sure her profile is going to rise even higher this year and her famous entourage is only going to help her get anything she wants.

Cara has her fair share of haters who think the only reason she made it as a model is herrich family who bought her way into fashion using either money or all the connections and friendships they have with famous people. Maybe she started like that (cause let’s be honest thinks do work that way many times) and got her foot in the door via her parents, but there’s no denying Cara Delevingne is extremely beautiful and has that special quality that makes a great model.

And let’s face it- right now Cara Delevingne has it all -  she is young, beautiful and rich. She’s the girl who’s life every teenager out there wants to live. She is the next big thing!

 Some more facts about Cara:
  • Cara Delevingne’s official Tumblr page!
  • Cara Delevingne’s height and weight: 5' 9.5" / 176.53cm, not confirmed but around 59 kgs
  • Cara Delevingne twitter
  • Cara Delevingne age: born 12 august 1992 (20 years old)

Hipster outfit: tigers and bowler hats

My life is pretty hectic right now so I feel that wearing something fun helps my mood. What I also found is that wearing a short skirt moves things along faster sometimes. And because I know you have dirty minds,  let me just clarify: I’m talking about people being nicer than usual.

I wanted this hat for ages but I postponed ordering it due to my preconception it wouldn’t look good on me. I also have a big head (I suspect that it has to be like that for all my brain to fit in :)))) and that was a worry too.

That being said, I love it and feel it looks cool with a huge pair of chandelier earrings. No worries, my ears weren’t harmed in the process although this is officially the biggest pair of chandelier earrings I own. It's going to be hard to top these!:)

As for the spiked hoodie, I had to have it – we’re talking white tiger here that’s like my spirit animal.
My sister said I should ask you for suggestions of what I could have added to make this look even more hipster(ish) ? :))) She lives to lovingly mock me!:)))

Theme party

I’m not much of club goer, but what I really like is a good home party especially if it has a cool theme. I’m the kind of person that likes to dress up and pretend she’s someone else from time to time. It’s pretty boring to be the same old you all the time.

I’ve actually just been invited to a casino themed party and I’m super excited about it, maybe a little bit too much if you know what I mean. There are going to be tables with dealers and we’re even going to play!

That's the reason I’m “studying” poker as we speak although I’m sure my gambling skills are not really something I can rely on. Instead I’m going to stick with what I like and concentrate on clothes – sometimes the only way to win is to use your table image as an advantage

I think I should pull a Vesper Lynd on my friends although showing up in a floor length backless dress might be a bit much even for me. But then again it would be really great especially if one of the guys decides to come as James Bond! Man, I hope at least one will!
Should I go the opposite direction and dress up like a Las Vegas dancer?

I’m also thinking Margot Tenebaum for some reason – just imagine a vintage slip worn as a dress with a faux fur coat, loafers and pearls. Maybe I should wear a pair of clean cut cigarette pants and a white shirt with a really big necklace and lots of rings.
Or get this: big ass hat, short trench, red lips – like a sexy Inspector Gadget meets Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's!!? The retro inspired outfit is always an option as well!

Photos: 1
I haven’t decided yet – there are some many ways to go about this!

Please feel free to add your suggestions in the comments section! I’m looking forward to getting even more confused about this! :)))

Outfit – Floppy hat and puppy love

I trust you all know Anna and Capby now and love them both as much as I do. The best thing that this blog brought me was the chance to meet some great people that ended up as some of my best friends. Anna is obviously on top of that list.

These photos are from a while back, but I actually wore this outfit last week so I thought I might as well post them. Me and Anna met that day as we often do after work and took her adorable pup, Captain, to the park! And it was such a fun day, just talking, relaxing and playing with the little ball of energy. The little things in life make everything better.

The outfit was supposed to be something very chic with that big floppy hat I have on, but the wind got in the way. That’s why instead of looking purely royal I do resemble the long lost cousin of Captain Jack Sparrow in some of the photos. I will however take sexy pirate over boring any time of the day.

I love how the brick-red blazer looks with the navy blue ensemble; I should really wear it more than once a year. In case you’re wondering I’m wearing three different lengths necklaces for an extra hippie effect! The silk shirt it’s 4 numbers too big but I made it work by tucking it into to short pleated skirt. I have this thing where I can’t really let go of some clothes even if they are too small or too big, I just like them too much. Does that ever happen to you guys?

  I'm wearing:
floppy  hat,  dotted jacket, necklaces, bag / palarie, jacheta buline, coliere, geanta - New Look
pleated skirt, blazer / fusta plisata, sacou caramiziu – vintage
ankle  boots / botine - New Yorker
silk shirt / camasa matase - random brand
rings / inele - Miss Selfridge

Outfit – the leather dress

I’m not usually a mall kind of girl except going to the movies or checking out the sales (it’s the easiest way to make a complete round through all your favorite stores without running around town).

And while I didn’t find anything worth mentioning, the fact that I spent some time with Costin (who took these photos) was very enjoyable.

We actually had great fun as we were convinced everybody was checking us out – which was probably the case - we are both very tall and did take a couple of photos inside so yeah, that would attract a bit of public attention.

We however prefer to think that was all due to our supermodel good-looks!:))))))) Let’s just call it agreed upon delusion, and leave it at that!

The short leather dress I’m wearing was the luckiest thrift find ever considering it’s almost a perfect fit and something I wanted for a very long time (without the desire to spend too much on it). It goes with everything so I just threw on this colorful waterfall cardigan with an ethnic print over it and I was almost ready to go.

I say almost because it somehow called for the two gold elephant bracelets I have on. I love wearing two of the same bracelets – one on each wrist – I guess it has something to do with Wonder Woman and her signature indestructible bracelets. Now, If I only had a Lasso of Truth as well!

 I'm wearing:
  waterfal cardigan/cardigan - romwe
leather dress, boots / rochie piele, cizme – vintage
earrings / cercei - Koton
green winter coat / palton verde - vintage
elephant bracelets / bratari elefant - random brand
bag / geanta – Debenhams

Up to 50% off through February 12th to 16th.

Emerald green

Burgundy who? Forget about that - it’s so last season!
Prepare yourself for the new star color: it’s none other than the bold, beautiful, bright emerald green which I always loved and felt deserved its moment of glory. Finally all the other fashion people have caught up!:)))) It was about time!

I so love this color and can’t wait to get my hands on some emerald green stuff - now that we'll probably have more to choose from. And I have to hurry before it gets too mainstream, everyone starts wearing it and eventually ruins it for me. And I’m not even joking here, this is serious business - it happened so many times before with people forever destroying something that I loved by overdoing it. Studs aren’t for example what they used to be in my world!

I’m still safe for now as it mostly popped on the catwalks and street style blogs.
Emerald Green (no.17-5641) wasjust officially crowned as Color of the Year and given the Oscar by Pantone (the company that uses polls in which designers and brands are asked about the colors they’re featuring in their work - the results of the pools help identify the next big color for that year).

Here’s what Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said about it: “Lively. Radiant. Lush. A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony. Green is the most abundant hue in nature — the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity — no other color conveys regeneration more than green.”

The growing popularity of this color can be directly tied with what’s literally “going down” the runways. And emerald green is king on the runway. It was a long time coming though - especially in the jewelry department, this color had been making an impact for quite a while (anyone remembers the 2011 Golden Globes?!).

And then in 2012, emerald was featured in a number of collections like Gucci, Lanvin and Kenzo. This year Zac Posen, Chanel, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, Nanette Lepore, Tracy Resse, Marimekko and Vivienne Tam, among others, showcased this color in their spring 2013 runway collections.

For me personally this color works wonders in every department and even more in jewelry and I fully intend to make the most of it. I love the fact that is going to look so great with my classic pieces.

Don’t forget to get your ticket for Emerald City (and I’m not talking about Seattle here), because you won’t regret it, this year’s IT color has something special, maybe even a bit o magic!

Dress me up

You probably know that if given the choice of only wearing one piece of clothing for the rest of my life I would go for a beautiful dress without thinking twice.

So when one of my readers, Melissa, sent me this email full of lovely compliments (thank you so very much) while also asking about my dresses I thought I should answer here.

I never counted them, but let’s just say we’re talking triple digits here. I'm a bit of a collector or so I tell  myself! More than half of all my dresses are vintage. I’m always on the hunt for a great retro piece and nobody is really safe when it comes to that.

I did “clean” all of my older relatives wardrobes already and because I’m open to hand me downs my friends often give me pretty dresses they know I will make work but that they wouldn’t be caught dead in. That’s not to say I will wear anything but rather that I like things that other people don’t really understand or even see themselves wear.

I’m also constantly keeping an eye open for special dress every time I window shop or check out online stores. In fact I always look at dresses first and then jewelry and shoes – it’s like a personal ritual. I love them all: maxi, short, party dresses and day dresses, silk or cotton, colorful and printed. I always think about them as feeling like home, comfort and confidence.

It’s hard for me to make a top of my favorite dresses and even if I’d try it wouldn’t be very objective – many of them are important to me because they mean something emotionally, they are linked to happy times, beautiful memories, people and feelings I had wearing them. All of the dresses in the photos were and still are some of my favorite dresses, there are many more that I’m sure are going to make an appearance on this blog at some point, but I choose these because I already had pictures.

Once again, guys, thank you so much for all the lovely things you write to me, I could never express how much they really mean to me!

Harvey Specter - Suits Glory

You knew I would eventually write about Harvey Specter. It just had to be done - drooling didn’t cut it anymore!

Recently named the third most popular new original series in USA Network's history, Suits is a great show that you won’t regret watching. Too bad this second season it’s almost done with the last episode airing next week. Can’t wait for more!

And if that doesn’t convince you then the eye candy involved will. Suits is the story of a successful lawyer - Harvey Specter (played by Gabriel Macht) - the best closer in New York, who hires a young man, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams) a genius with an incredibly high IQ and a photographic memory. The twist is Specter tells his firm that Ross graduated from Harvard Law School when in fact he never actually attended law school.

The show is witty, funny and highly addictive. But my favorite thing about Suits it’s mister Harvey Specter and his old-Hollywood-glam-look. That, Donna and Louis Litt!

I know for a fact that you all just went into day dreaming mode as soon as you heard that name. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t judge, I’m with all of you in this! That’s not to say the good looking actors and actresses are the only thing this TV show has going on - we’re talking serious acting here, believable characters, great storylines, sharp writing and a lot of humor.

Suits has depth, it’s smart and funny without ever going overboard. And just so you know – the bromance in Suits it’s off the charts (personally I’m a sucker for a good bromance). The whole boss-mentor relationship is one of the highlights of the show.

But let’s talk about Harvey! That man is so sexy and confident that I would get into trouble only to be represented by his fine self! And don’t even get me started on his hair, that thing deserves his own television show that’s how perfect it looks.

He has so much swag it’s ridiculous! Harvey Specter is basically half charm, half men suits tailored to perfection, literally topped with the sleekest hairdo in showbiz.

 Do you? Do you, really?:))))

And yes, I am aware Harvey Specter is not a real person, but he sure knows how to put himself together in the morning. He is the epitome of television fashion; his style is what most people just don’t have the possibility to achieve in real life. What I love about him is the fact that while looking like a God he doesn’t seem he is trying too hard. Harvey Specter makes impeccable look effortless.

I think I learned more about fine, quality suites by watching Harvey Specter’s wardrobe then I’d ever learned in my life and I’m a sucker for his third pieces high end designer suits. You can just see that they are tailored with impeccable precision.

In the accessory department he keeps it simple, but the pieces he does choose make an instant statement: amazing cufflinks, perfect ties, elegant designer watches or the occasional neatly folded pocket square. And the most important part in Mister Specter`s wardrobe is his confidence because, let’s face it, no matter how nice a suit you’re wearing if you don’t have the goods to back that up it won’t work.

Even if Harvey never looks anything less then amazing in his contemporary Tom Ford suites, Gabriel Macht describes the style of his character as "Cary Grant meets Steve McQueen".

The fantasy of Harvey Specter is complete because this personage is not only well dressed and painfully handsome but also damn brilliant. Is there anything sexier then that? I tough so! Besides his cocky swagger and smile he gets his charm from being so damn smart and arrogant. Harvey Specter quotes are pretty cool!
Why don’t you check out the corner of 81stand kiss my ass?
I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I don’t want to!
That's the difference between you and me, you wanna lose small, I wanna win big!
I’m against having emotions, not using them!
Do I think that I’m smarter than you? You’re damn right I do.
I stand corrected, your ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ quote, that proves you belong at the adult table.

I for one give the Oscar for most stylish man on television right now to him. Sorry Mister Draper, but a new player is in town and if you want to get ahead you have to step up your game!

I’m telling you girls and boys, if you want to feel better after a hard day, just watch an episode and you will see what I’m talking about. Harvey is the smoothest, most charming guy on TV right now.

Leave it to me to wear a pair of sky high white ankle boots on a rainy day! I didn’t touch them for months but somehow decided that this was the right day to do it!

Oh well, it wasn’t that bad as after work I spent some time with Costin and Denisa, talked, laughed and took outfit photos because that’s what we do! It's very glamorous!:)

They also made fun of me and said I’m too skinny and should eat a burger which was hilarious because this is the first time in my life someday has ever told me that! It’s usually more like: “Don’t you touch that burger!” or “Leave some cake/cupcakes/ice-cream for me too!” I blame it on the purple skirt and white jumper – they made me look slimmer then I am! Also they see me through friendship goggles!

You might remember the pink herringbone coat, I wore it before and it’s one of my favorite for years now. I like to belt it and wear it whenever an outfit needs a bit of extra color! I hope you like my new  statement necklace and silver elephant bracelet as well!

I'm wearing:
  statement necklace / colier- romwe
purple skirt /fusta mov – vintage
herringbone coat / palton - miniPrix
white ankle boots / ghete inalte albe - Asos
elephant bracelet, tights, jumper / bratara elefant, ciorapi, pulover - random brand
bag / geanta – oasap

Oscar de la Renta Fall Winter 2013 - New York Fashion Week

One of my favorite fashion shows from New York Fashion Week was Oscar de la Renta Fall/Winter 2013 Collection. The colors were spot on (from bright pink, emerald green, indigo to the classic Renta red, they were all there), and the cuts just perfect.

I have to admit that I was curious to see if the fact that Oscar de la Renta invited John Galliano, the disgraced Dior designer, to join his atelier for three weeks and give his input on the upcoming collection would have an impact on the designs.

Also does that mean that Galliano will make a comeback in fashion? Regardless of all the unanswered questions in the fashion news treadmill the result was amazing - they are a pair made in fashion designers heaven. Even though the collection was classic Oscar - rich, chic and elegant you could catch little glimpses of Galliano now and then, like the wrap coats and cloche hats.

My favorite details were the see-through gloves in different shades gathered over the wrist! I just love those! I need them in my life!

Even if this was a fall collection the clothes had a very light feel to them. Perfectly tailored jackets with unusual cuts were paired with simple midi skirts.

I loved how the cardigan jackets and Oscar de la Renta dresses were gathered at the waist with lovely, thin belts. I was impressed with the styling and the accessories as well - those three shades of lipstick perfectly matched to every outfit, the simple, vibrant shoes, the wet Spanish hair look – everything just worked!

The rich colors and bold jewelry (necklaces, brooches, earrings and beaded crystals details) were perfectly chosen and added an extra layer of flavor to this already delicious mix.

I thought all the prints and textures were truly fabulous. The long, elegant but colorful gloves, fur accents and gorgeous ball gowns made this collection one for the fashion history books!

Let’s not forget the fashion house just celebrated 50 years of work in New York City so Happy Birthday to them for that too!

So, are you as enthusiastic about this Oscar de la Renta fall collection as I am? Do you find it inspiring or not?

Outfit: Fur coat and rhinestones

I think it was high time for my hippie double personality to make an appearance. It’s the winter edition though – no light dresses and flower crowns to speak of this time. Instead I felt like wearing a rhinestone headband and my beloved vintage fur coat. You just can’t keep a (good) bohemian down! If I feel like wearing a fringe bag and things in my hair I’ll do it and rain can kiss my a**!

As you can see I’m really fond of  the “Wonder Woman” trend aka wearing two identical bracelets, one on each wrist, I’ve been doing it for quite a while now which invariably lead to the growth of my collection of bracelets (I’ll take any excuse to buy some more bling). Now I’m really into animal bracelets: the elephant being a recurrent obsession!

This also happened to be the outfit I wore at the opening of a very cool jewelry store, Queen Boutique,  here in Bucharest. You can see me wearing a spider necklace that, surprise, was my favorite piece that night.
 I'm wearing:
fur coat, short navy cardigan  / haina blana, cardigan - vintage
mullet dress  /rochie asimetrica - Pull&Bear
rhinestone headband / bentita hippie - Marks&Spencer
elephant bracelets / bratari elefant - random brand
bag / geanta - oasap
boots, belt / cizme, curea - vintage

Versace Fall Winter 2013 – Milan Fashion Week

Donatella went all out for this fall/winter Versace collection exploring the 90s and punk culture and giving an all knowing wink to this year’s Met Gala exhibit themed  “Punk: Chaos to Couture” which will “examine punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s birth in the 1970s through its continuing influence today”.

It might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but then again, Versace was always about sexy, wild and liberating. Who else would ever think to bring vinyl center stage and unapologetically use it in everything from dreses, to jackets and skin tight pants? The collection playfully called “Vunk” (which, I guess, stands for Versace Punk) is full of fetish and dominatrix references.

I appreciated all the sharp cuts, slashed leather/pleather, the mix of punk and glamorous, the nostalgic feel of the 90’s that made this Versace collection walk the line between extravagance and exhibitionism.

The accessories were literally hardcore and the highlight of the show in my opinion: chokers with nails, colorful crystals and razors, spiky dog collar bracelets, studded black purses worn  under the arm, cuffed ankle boots overflowing with spikes, chunky razor blade and heavy silver chains necklaces, spike-like screws that pierced the models' earlobes and originally marked specific cuts on dresses.

The entire feel of the show was defiant, even aggressive but also sexy and glamorous.

I loved how Versace made me simultaneously think about: The Clash, Cher Horowitz, Sex Pistols and Marilyn Manson. But most of all it made me think of that iocnic moment in pop culture when an unkown Elizabeth Hurley accompanied Hugh Grant at the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994 wearing the infamous Gianni Versace safety pin dress that subsequently made her famous.

My favorite detail were these cool harnesses worn over see through plastic tees layered over the medusa head Versace logo that looked like metal but were in fact lined silver bugle beads (just imagine the handwork involved to make them).

So, what do you think?

Midday sparkle

Who said a silver sequin dress is not meant to be worn in the middle of the day! As you can see I did just that and what do you know, the world is still spinning?! I felt I should mark the beginning of spring somehow and leaving a sparkle trail behind seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea.

The long cardigan I threw over it and the western style boots are the elements I used to dress it down a bit. I was not about to blind a significant part of the good people of Bucharest.
The photos were taken by Costin who, I promise, wasn’t harmed much in the process!

RO

 I'm wearing:
  belts  / curele - vintage
sequin dress, cardigan  / rochie paiete, cardigan lung - miniPrix
western boots / cizme - miniPrix
jewelry / bijuteri - random brand
bag / geanta - Marks&Spencer

Ce ziceti? Stiati de campanie? Ati gasit deja ceva frumos?

Travel Tips

Regardless of the way you choose to travel: by land, sea or air you have to be prepared because being unfashionable on top of jet-lagged it’s not as cool as you might think.

Air travel is my favorite and part of the fun is creepy people watching in airports. I’m sure you all smiled seeing those people who think the waiting area it’s their personal catwalk and they came prepared for an one man show. Please don’t be that douchebag by wearing the highest heels you own, all the jewelry you have and the tightest, shortest dress or skirt you can find. In fact don’t even think about touching anything from your teenage cousin’s wardrobe! At the same times change from your beat-up sweats, you are not in your bedroom anymore!

In order to make your last minute travel as enjoyable as you can you have to find a balance. Make your outfit as comfortable as you can without sacrificing style.
It’s true decades ago traveling was considered a big event: the travel  budget involved was huge and the dress code was designed to project success and wealth but, nowadays, with all the travel deals existing out there, you can always go for relaxed, functional outfits  without thinking twice about it!

A nice fitted pair of jeans is almost always a good choice, as long as they don’t prove to be so tight that you can’t breathe in them. You can just pair your favorite pans with a nice cotton top and add a cardigan sweater or an oversize wrap. Even if you are going to a warmer destination you will be proud of yourself once up in the air. And as a bonus, layering is definitely the key to look chic. I personally love flats – they are comfortable and if you pick a pair in a great color you also add a little style to your outfit.
A cute, comfortable dress is the best the alternative to jeans.

Don’t forget about sunglasses – they are great when trying to disguise how tired you really are and give you the world traveler edge I know you want to have!:)
Stay away from wearing a lot of jewelry or shoes that are difficult to get on and off, just remember you have to remove all of these things during security checkups, and you don’t want to piss everybody out by holding up the line, people tend to have less patience while traveling! Heavy makeup won’t cut it either, as it will most likely get runny after hours on a plane, and you will look less than flattering at the end.
Hats are also a definitive yes while traveling; they mask the fact that you are tired while giving you a chic vibe.

And with these tips in mind (you can think of me as your own personal travel adviser), all that’s left to do is call your travel agency and choose your dream destination.
If you have a private jet of your own you can forget everything I said. Just take your coolest pair of Ray Bansand you’ll be ready to go (not before inviting me to join in though)!

Any vacation plans you want to make me jealous with?
